Wovenwar

Wovenwar is an American heavy metal/metalcore supergroup formed in Southern California in 2013. The band features Shane Blay (formerly of Oh, Sleeper) on clean vocals and rhythm guitar, Jordan Mancino (of As I Lay Dying) on drums, Nick Hipa (formerly of As I Lay Dying) on lead guitar, Phil Sgrosso (formerly of As I Lay Dying) on rhythm guitar, and Josh Gilbert (formerly of As I Lay Dying) on bass and backing vocals.

The group's formation was a direct result of the hiatus of As I Lay Dying following legal issues involving their vocalist. Rather than disband entirely, the instrumental core of As I Lay Dying sought to continue creating music with a new vocal dynamic. They chose to collaborate with Shane Blay due to his clean vocal ability and songwriting talent, leading to a sound that blends elements of metalcore with more melodic and accessible hooks.

Wovenwar released their self-titled debut album in 2014 through Metal Blade Records. The album was met with generally positive reviews, praised for its musicianship and the successful integration of Blay's vocals with the existing As I Lay Dying instrumental foundation. Their sound is characterized by heavy riffs, intricate guitar harmonies, dynamic drumming, and a balance between aggressive verses and soaring choruses.

The band released their second album, Honor Is Dead, in 2016, also through Metal Blade Records. Honor Is Dead continued to explore similar themes and musical styles as their debut, solidifying Wovenwar's position as a notable act within the metalcore and heavy metal genres. Since the release of Honor Is Dead, the band has been relatively inactive, with the members focusing on other musical projects, including the reformation of As I Lay Dying with their original vocalist. The future of Wovenwar remains uncertain.
