William Haworth (priest)
William Haworth (1841 – 1917) was an English clergyman and academic. He served as the Principal of Queen's College, Birmingham, from 1882 to 1895.
Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, Haworth was educated at Shrewsbury School and St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a BA in 1864 and an MA in 1867. He was ordained as a deacon in 1865 and as a priest in 1866.
Haworth initially served as a curate at St. Nicholas, Birmingham. His academic career then took off, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become Principal of Queen's College, Birmingham. During his time as Principal, he worked to modernize the college's curriculum and improve its facilities. He resigned from the position in 1895.
Following his departure from Queen's College, Haworth served as the Rector of St. Margaret's, Great Barr, from 1895 until his death in 1917. He was also a Canon of Birmingham Cathedral. He was buried in the churchyard of St. Margaret's.
