William Chester (bishop)

William Chester (dates of birth and death unknown) was an Irish Roman Catholic bishop who served as the Bishop of Clonfert from 1696 to 1728. He was appointed to the See of Clonfert on 3 December 1696 and consecrated sometime thereafter. He led the diocese during a difficult period marked by the implementation of the Penal Laws, which severely restricted the rights and activities of Catholics in Ireland. Little specific information is widely available regarding his activities within the diocese. He held the position until his death in 1728.
