Line E (Buenos Aires Underground)

Line E is a line of the Buenos Aires Underground (Subte) that runs from Retiro to Plaza de los Virreyes. Identified by the color light blue, it is one of the six lines currently operating in the Buenos Aires subway system. The line has a total length of approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) and comprises 18 stations.

Originally planned in the 1930s, construction was delayed due to various factors including economic difficulties and World War II. The first section of Line E opened in 1944, running between Constitución and General Urquiza. The line was subsequently extended in stages to its current terminus at Retiro in 1966 and Plaza de los Virreyes in 1986.

Line E connects with other subway lines at several stations, providing transfer opportunities for passengers traveling throughout the city. These include connections to Line C at Independencia, Line A at Lima, and Line B at Correo Central.

The line uses a third rail power system and operates with rolling stock different from other lines in the network, which are gradually being replaced with newer models. The ongoing modernization of Line E includes track upgrades, station improvements, and the introduction of new signaling systems. The future expansion plans may include further extensions to improve connectivity and accommodate increasing ridership.
