Whitehorn Mountain (British Columbia)
Whitehorn Mountain is a mountain located in the Canadian Rockies, within British Columbia. It is situated within the Banff National Park boundaries, although it lies just west of the Alberta/British Columbia provincial border. The mountain is part of the Slate Range.
The peak is notable for its prominence and its role as a location for recreational activities, particularly skiing and hiking. It overlooks Lake Louise and is a prominent feature in the landscape seen from the Lake Louise Ski Resort.
While not one of the highest peaks in the Rockies, Whitehorn Mountain provides significant vertical relief and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The mountain's geology consists primarily of sedimentary rocks, typical of the Canadian Rockies. Access to the mountain is primarily via hiking trails during the summer months, and via ski lifts during the winter months, related to the Lake Louise Ski Resort.
The name "Whitehorn" is believed to refer to the light-colored rock formations present on the mountain's slopes. There are no major settlements directly on Whitehorn Mountain, but it contributes significantly to the tourism economy of Lake Louise and the surrounding area.
