White Horse (whisky)

White Horse is a blended Scotch whisky produced by White Horse Distillers Ltd, which is currently owned by Diageo. It is named after a famous Edinburgh coaching inn, established in 1742, that was a starting point for coaches to London.

The blend typically consists of a high proportion of single malt whisky, with Lagavulin often cited as a key component, contributing to its distinctive smoky and peaty character. Other malts used in the blend can vary, but are selected to create a consistent flavour profile. Grain whisky is also used in the blend to balance the richer malt components.

White Horse has a long history, with production dating back to the late 19th century. The brand has gone through various ownership changes over the years, ultimately landing with Diageo. While its popularity has fluctuated, it remains a recognized and available blended Scotch whisky in many markets worldwide. The standard expression is bottled at 40% ABV (alcohol by volume).
