Whipper (budgerigar)
A Whipper in the context of budgerigars (also known as parakeets), specifically within the fancy budgerigar breeding community, refers to a young bird, typically one that is newly fledged or recently weaned. The term isn't universally used but is common amongst breeders and exhibitors. It describes a bird still somewhat dependent on its parents or the breeder for care and often characterized by its active, sometimes clumsy, movements as it explores its environment and learns to fly effectively. "Whipper" is often used endearingly, highlighting the bird's youth and inexperience.
