Born in Luohe, Henan province, Wan Long began his career in a state-owned meat processing plant. Through a series of strategic decisions and business acumen, he transformed the Shuanghui Group from a struggling enterprise into a globally dominant force in the meat industry.
Key milestones in Wan Long's career include:
- Leading the privatization of Shuanghui Group.
- Expanding Shuanghui's production and distribution network across China.
- Orchestrating the acquisition of Smithfield Foods in 2013, the largest Chinese acquisition of an American company to date.
Wan Long's leadership has been recognized through numerous awards and accolades. He is considered a key figure in China's economic development and a prominent example of a successful entrepreneur in a state-controlled economy. He has also served as a delegate to the National People's Congress. While his business achievements are widely celebrated, he has also faced scrutiny regarding labor practices and food safety issues within the WH Group and its subsidiaries. His tenure has seen the company navigate fluctuating pork prices and evolving consumer demands. Wan Long's focus remains on expanding WH Group's global footprint and maintaining its position as the world leader in pork production.
