Volta (crater)
Volta is a lunar impact crater that lies near the northwestern limb of the Moon. It is located to the north of the prominent crater Xenophanes, and east of the smaller but well-defined crater Regnault. Due north of Volta is Cusanus. Due to its location, Volta is viewed at a low angle from the Earth, and its visibility is affected by libration.
The rim of Volta is heavily eroded and irregular, with a complex arrangement of ridges, valleys, and small craters. The interior floor is relatively level, but possesses several small craterlets. A low ridge runs from the southwest rim to the north-northeast, dividing the interior into unequal sections. There is a cluster of small craters located in the eastern half of the floor.
The age of Volta is difficult to determine due to the degradation of its features, but it is likely Nectarian in age, judging by its location and the degree of its erosion.
