Vladimir Vasilyev (politician)

Vladimir Abdulayevich Vasilyev (Russian: Владимир Абдуалиевич Васильев; born August 11, 1949) is a Russian politician and former police officer. He served as the Acting Head of the Republic of Dagestan from October 3, 2017, and subsequently as the Head of the Republic of Dagestan from September 9, 2018, until November 5, 2020.

Vasilyev graduated from the Higher Political School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. He spent most of his career in law enforcement agencies, rising through the ranks to become a high-ranking officer in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Before his appointment in Dagestan, Vasilyev served as a State Duma deputy for the United Russia party.

His appointment as the head of Dagestan marked a significant event, as he was the first ethnic Russian to lead the republic in many years. During his tenure, he focused on combating corruption and improving the socio-economic situation in the region.

In November 2020, Vasilyev resigned from his position as the Head of Dagestan. He was succeeded by Sergei Melikov. He was subsequently appointed as an advisor to the President of the Russian Federation.
