Vicdessos

Vicdessos is a former commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune Auzat.

Geography:

Vicdessos was situated in the Pyrenees mountains, in the Vicdessos valley, through which the Vicdessos river flows. The valley is known for its scenic beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities.

History:

Historically, the area was involved in various industries, including mining and agriculture. Prior to the merger, Vicdessos was an independent commune with its own mayor and local government.

Before its incorporation into Auzat, Vicdessos had its own local administrative structure, including a town hall (mairie) and a municipal council. The commune was part of a larger administrative division (canton, arrondissement) within the Ariège department.
