Varzob (river)
The Varzob River is a major river in Tajikistan. It flows through the Hisor Range and is a significant tributary of the Kofarnihon River, which itself is a tributary of the Amu Darya (Oxus) river system. The Varzob's length is approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles).
The river's source is in the southern slopes of the Hisor Range, and it generally flows southwards through a steep, narrow valley. The Varzob valley is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for recreation, including hiking and picnics, especially for residents of nearby Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan.
The Varzob River is also an important source of water for irrigation and domestic use. Several villages and towns are located along its banks, relying on the river for their water needs. There are also several hydropower plants located along the river that generate electricity.
The river is subject to seasonal fluctuations in flow, with higher water levels typically occurring during the spring snowmelt and lower levels during the drier summer months.
