VPB-34

VPB-34 was a United States Navy patrol bombing squadron that operated during World War II. Officially established as Patrol Bombing Squadron 34 (VPB-34) on July 1, 1943, it was a consolidation of earlier patrol squadrons VP-11 and VP-101. The squadron primarily flew PV-1 Ventura aircraft.

VPB-34 was initially based in the Aleutian Islands, where it conducted anti-submarine patrols and reconnaissance missions against Japanese forces occupying islands in the region. Their area of operation covered vast stretches of the North Pacific.

Following the conclusion of the Aleutian Islands Campaign, VPB-34 was redeployed to the Central Pacific, where it continued to perform patrol, bombing, and reconnaissance duties. The squadron participated in operations around the Marshall Islands and other key locations.

VPB-34 was disestablished on December 3, 1945, following the end of World War II. Its personnel were reassigned, and its aircraft were either returned to the United States or disposed of. The squadron earned a battle star for its service in the Aleutian Islands Campaign.
