V-block

A V-block is a precision metalworking fixture typically used to hold round or cylindrical workpieces for performing machining operations or inspections. Its primary characteristic is a "V" shaped groove or channel machined into the top surface. This "V" provides two points of contact with the cylindrical workpiece, accurately centering it along the axis of the V.

V-blocks are generally manufactured in matched pairs to ensure uniform height and alignment when supporting longer workpieces. They are typically made of hardened steel or cast iron for durability and precision. The angle of the "V" groove is most commonly 90 degrees, but other angles may be used for specialized applications.

Applications for V-blocks include drilling, milling, grinding, and inspection. They are used to hold workpieces for operations such as center drilling, marking out, and verifying roundness or concentricity. Some V-blocks incorporate clamps or other securing mechanisms to firmly hold the workpiece in place during machining.
