USS Poughkeepsie (PF-26)
The USS Poughkeepsie (PF-26) was a Tacoma-class frigate of the United States Navy. She was named for Poughkeepsie, New York.
Construction and Commissioning
The Poughkeepsie was laid down on 26 July 1943 by the Western Pipe and Steel Co., San Francisco, California; launched on 29 October 1943; sponsored by Mrs. John E. Evans; and commissioned on 23 February 1944.
Service History
Following shakedown training, the Poughkeepsie departed San Francisco on 1 May 1944, arriving in Pearl Harbor on 15 May for further training before departing for the Western Pacific.
