USS Columbus (SSN-762)

The USS Columbus (SSN-762) is a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine of the United States Navy. She is the second ship of the Navy to be named for the city of Columbus, Ohio.

Columbus was built by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. Her keel was laid down on 6 January 1992, and she was launched on 18 September 1993. The submarine was commissioned on 20 January 1995.

As a Los Angeles-class submarine, Columbus is designed for a variety of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance. She is equipped with advanced sonar systems, torpedoes, and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

The Columbus is powered by a S6G nuclear reactor, which provides her with a high degree of endurance and the ability to operate at high speeds. She is capable of submerged speeds in excess of 20 knots.

Columbus has participated in numerous deployments and exercises throughout her service life. Her homeport is currently Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The ship's motto is "Fortitudine Vincimus" which translates to "By Endurance We Conquer".
