True West (band)

True West is an American band that formed in Davis, California, in 1980, and were key figures in the Paisley Underground scene of the early 1980s. Characterized by their blend of garage rock, psychedelic influences, and jangly guitar textures, they are considered one of the pioneers of the genre.

The band's core lineup consisted of Russ Tolman (vocals, guitar), Richard McGrath (guitar), Gavin Blair (bass), and Bill Fairfield (drums). They released several EPs and albums throughout the 1980s, including "Hollywood Holiday" (1983) and "Drifters" (1984), which garnered critical acclaim.

While never achieving mainstream commercial success, True West earned a dedicated following and influenced numerous alternative rock bands. They contributed significantly to the development of the Paisley Underground sound, alongside contemporaries like The Dream Syndicate, The Long Ryders, and Rain Parade.

Following a period of inactivity, True West reunited in the early 2000s and has since released new music and toured. Their legacy as an important band in the Paisley Underground and American alternative music scene continues to be recognized.
