Tropical Depression One (1992)

Tropical Depression One was the first tropical cyclone of the 1992 Atlantic hurricane season. It was a short-lived and weak tropical depression that formed in the Gulf of Mexico in late June.

The depression originated from a broad area of low pressure in the western Gulf. It organized sufficiently to be classified as Tropical Depression One on June 25, 1992. At the time of formation, it was located roughly 200 miles west-southwest of Fort Myers, Florida.

Despite favorable conditions for strengthening, including warm sea surface temperatures and low wind shear, Tropical Depression One failed to intensify significantly. It tracked generally eastward toward the Florida peninsula.

The system made landfall near Naples, Florida on June 26, 1992, with maximum sustained winds estimated at 30 mph. Shortly after landfall, the depression weakened and dissipated over the Florida peninsula.

Impact from Tropical Depression One was minimal. Primarily, it brought locally heavy rainfall across portions of southern Florida. No significant damage or fatalities were reported. The remnants of the depression contributed to rainfall further inland, but the overall impact remained low.
