Tom Petri

Tom Petri (born September 28, 1940) is an American politician and attorney who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives for Wisconsin's 6th congressional district from 1979 to 2015.

Born in Marinette, Wisconsin, Petri graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 and a Juris Doctor degree in 1965. Before entering Congress, he served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1973 to 1979.

During his tenure in the House, Petri served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Education and the Workforce Committee. He was known for his moderate Republican views and his focus on infrastructure and education policy. Petri also served as the chairman of the Surface Transportation Subcommittee.

Petri announced his retirement from Congress in 2014 and did not seek re-election in 2014. He left office in January 2015.
