Thomas Ryder (engraver)

Thomas Ryder (1746 – 1790) was a British engraver, known primarily for his stipple engravings. He was born in London and studied under Charles Grignion the Elder. Ryder produced a significant body of work, often reproducing paintings by prominent artists of his time, including Angelica Kauffmann, William Hogarth, and Francesco Bartolozzi (under whom he also may have studied). His engravings were popular for their delicate rendering of detail and soft tonal effects achieved through the stipple technique. He exhibited at the Society of Artists and the Royal Academy. He died in London in 1790.
