Thomas Reynolds (minister)
Thomas Reynolds (1667 – 1727) was an English dissenting minister and hymn writer. He was born in Shrewsbury and educated at the academy of Richard Frankland at Rathmell, and later at London. He served as a pastor in various congregations, including at New Broad Street, London, where he was a colleague of Isaac Watts.
Reynolds was known for his moderate Calvinism and his conciliatory approach towards differing theological viewpoints within the dissenting community. He published several sermons and religious tracts, reflecting his commitment to practical piety and Christian living. He is best remembered today for his hymns, which were included in collections such as Samuel Medley's Collection of Hymns. His hymns are characterized by their simplicity, sincerity, and focus on the love of God and the grace of Christ.
