Thomas Brandreth (Royal Navy officer)

Thomas Brandreth (born 1788, died 1861) was a Royal Navy officer. He served with distinction throughout the Napoleonic Wars and continued his career into the Victorian era, reaching the rank of Vice-Admiral.

Brandreth entered the Royal Navy in 1799. Early in his career, he served in the Mediterranean. He participated in various engagements against French forces during the Napoleonic Wars. Notably, he was present at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, serving as a midshipman aboard HMS Belleisle. Belleisle was heavily engaged in the battle, and Brandreth distinguished himself by his courage and seamanship.

Following Trafalgar, Brandreth continued to serve actively. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1807, Commander in 1815, Captain in 1822, Rear-Admiral in 1851, and Vice-Admiral in 1857. He commanded several ships throughout his career, including HMS Conway.

Brandreth held various shore-based positions in later life, reflecting his seniority and experience. He was also a Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey.

Thomas Brandreth died in 1861.
