The Traitors (British TV series)
The Traitors is a British reality television series produced by Studio Lambert for BBC One. It is based on the Dutch program De Verraders, created by Marc Pos, and involves a group of contestants, known as "Faithfuls," who must identify a hidden group of "Traitors" among them.
The show is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and is filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The contestants compete in challenges to build a prize pot. However, the Traitors secretly meet each night to "murder" one of the Faithfuls, eliminating them from the game. The Faithfuls, in turn, must attempt to identify and banish the Traitors during daily roundtable discussions.
The goal for the Faithfuls is to eliminate all the Traitors and share the prize pot. The goal for the Traitors is to either eliminate all the Faithfuls or reach the end of the game without being detected, in which case they will take the entire prize pot.
The series premiered in November 2022 and has received critical acclaim for its suspenseful gameplay, compelling characters, and Winkleman's hosting. It has been praised for its exploration of trust, deception, and social dynamics. A second series aired in 2024 and has also proven highly popular.
The success of the British series has led to international adaptations, including versions in the United States and Australia, each following the same fundamental premise of deception and deduction.
