The Invisible Man (1958 TV series)

The Invisible Man was a British science fiction television series that aired in 1958 and 1959. It was produced by Sapphire Films for ITC Entertainment and loosely based on H.G. Wells' novel of the same name. The series starred Johnny Scripps (credited as John Scripps) as Dr. Peter Brady, a scientist who becomes invisible after an experiment goes wrong.

Unlike Wells' original character, Brady uses his invisibility for good, working as a secret agent for the British government. The series focused on Brady's missions, which often involved espionage and combating various threats to national security. His invisibility was depicted through various special effects techniques, including stop-motion animation, creative use of props, and editing.

The series consisted of two seasons, totaling 26 episodes. Each episode generally ran for approximately 30 minutes. The show was initially filmed in black and white, but it was later colorized. The Invisible Man proved to be a popular show in both the United Kingdom and internationally, contributing to the early wave of science fiction television. While it deviated significantly from the source material, it established its own identity as a Cold War-era spy thriller with a science fiction twist.
