The Helix (Falkirk)
The Helix is a parkland project located between Falkirk and Grangemouth in Scotland. Its primary purpose is to connect 16 communities in the Falkirk Council area through a network of paths and cycleways. It also aims to regenerate the area and provide recreational and leisure facilities for local residents and tourists.
The park spans 350 hectares (860 acres) and features various attractions, including a lagoon for water sports, walking trails, cycling routes, and open green spaces. A key feature and major tourist attraction within The Helix is The Kelpies, two 30-metre-high horse-head sculptures designed by artist Andy Scott.
The project was funded by a combination of sources, including the Big Lottery Fund, Falkirk Council, and Scottish Enterprise. Construction began in 2011 and the park officially opened to the public in 2013. The Helix has since become a popular destination for visitors, contributing to the local economy and promoting outdoor activities.
