The Goldbergs (broadcast series)
The Goldbergs is an American period sitcom television series created by Adam F. Goldberg that aired on ABC from September 24, 2013, to May 3, 2023. The series is inspired by Goldberg's own childhood and family in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, during the 1980s.
The show is presented in a semi-autobiographical manner, with the character Adam (played by Sean Giambrone) often narrating the episodes and filming events with his video camera. The series focuses on the everyday lives of the Goldberg family: Murray (Jeff Garlin), the loud and overprotective father; Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey), the smothering and loving mother; Erica (Hayley Orrantia), the rebellious eldest daughter; Barry (Troy Gentile), the often-misguided middle child; and Adam, the youngest, who is a budding filmmaker and pop culture enthusiast. George Segal portrayed Albert "Pops" Solomon, Beverly's father, until his death in 2021; his character was then written out of the series with a tribute episode.
The Goldbergs is known for its nostalgic portrayal of the 1980s, featuring fashion, music, movies, and cultural trends of the era. Each episode typically incorporates elements of Goldberg's actual home videos and personal experiences, providing a blend of humor and heartfelt moments. The series also explores themes of family, friendship, and growing up. The final season (season 10) included the introduction of new family members and storylines, concluding the decade-long run of the show.
