SS Arabic (1920)

The SS Arabic was a passenger cargo steamship built in 1920 by Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Company, Hebburn-on-Tyne, England, for the White Star Line. Originally intended to be named SS Baltic, her construction began during World War I but was delayed. She was eventually launched and completed as SS Arabic, named after a previous White Star Line ship of the same name that was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat in 1915.

The SS Arabic operated primarily on routes between the United Kingdom and Australia, carrying passengers, mail, and cargo. She was a relatively modest ship compared to some of the larger and more famous White Star Line liners, but she provided a reliable service for many years.

In 1931, the SS Arabic was sold to the Red Star Line and renamed SS Coptic. She continued to sail under the Red Star Line flag until 1935 when she was scrapped in Belgium.
