Simon Thomas (politician)
Simon Thomas (born February 7, 1963, Llanrwst, Wales) is a Welsh politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ceredigion from 2000 to 2005, representing Plaid Cymru. He was subsequently a Member of the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) for Mid and West Wales from 2011 to 2018.
Thomas's political career began in local government. Before entering Parliament, he worked in the voluntary sector. As an MP, he focused on issues such as rural affairs, agriculture, and constitutional matters relating to Wales. He was a strong advocate for Welsh language and culture.
During his time in the Senedd, Thomas served on a number of committees, including the Environment and Sustainability Committee. He also served as Plaid Cymru's spokesperson on various portfolios, including agriculture and rural affairs.
Thomas resigned from the Senedd in 2018 to take up the post of Chief Executive of Wales Arts International, the international arm of the Arts Council of Wales.
