The Fugitive (2003 film)
The Fugitive is a 2003 American action thriller film directed by Andrew Davis. It is not a remake of the critically acclaimed 1993 film of the same name starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, although both films share the same core premise: a man wrongly convicted of murdering his wife goes on the run to prove his innocence while being pursued by law enforcement.
This 2003 version stars Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble (as in the 1993 film), but instead features a different cast of characters and a different plot. The central character is Ronald J. Cox, played by Mario Van Peebles, a former U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant who is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife. He escapes while being transported between correctional facilities and attempts to clear his name.
The film deviates significantly from the 1993 version, offering a new mystery and new antagonists. The pursuer in this film is Detective Samuel Gerard, reprised by Tommy Lee Jones, though he plays the character much differently than in the first movie. The film generally received negative reviews and was considered a box office disappointment compared to its predecessor. Critics cited the derivative nature of the plot and the lack of originality as primary shortcomings.
