The Escorts (British band)

The Escorts were a British beat group from Liverpool, England, formed in 1962. Originally known as The Four Jays, they are best known for their song "From Head to Toe," which reached number 41 in the UK Singles Chart in 1964.

The band's initial lineup consisted of Terry Sylvester (lead guitar/vocals), Mike Gregory (rhythm guitar/vocals), Frank Allen (bass guitar/vocals), and Pete Clarke (drums). They underwent several lineup changes throughout their career.

In 1963, Frank Allen left the band to join The Searchers, and was replaced by Johnny Gustafson. Shortly after, Pete Clarke was replaced by Kenny Goodlass on drums. It was with this lineup that they recorded "From Head to Toe."

While "From Head to Toe" was their only charting single, The Escorts remained active throughout the 1960s, performing in clubs and venues across the UK and Europe. They also released several other singles, including "The One to Cry" and "I Don't Want to Go On Without You."

Terry Sylvester left the band in 1969 to join The Hollies. The remaining members continued to perform under different names for a period before eventually disbanding.
