The Crossroads (album)
The Crossroads is the fourth studio album by American hip hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, released on July 23, 1996, on Ruthless Records. The album is a significant commercial and critical success for the group.
It is most known for the Grammy Award-winning single "Tha Crossroads," a song dedicated to the memory of their mentor, Eazy-E, and other loved ones who had passed away. The original version of "Crossroads" appeared on their 1995 EP, Creepin on ah Come Up, but the version on this album, "Tha Crossroads," is a re-written and more polished version aimed at a wider audience.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 361,000 copies in its first week. It was eventually certified 4x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Crossroads is generally regarded as one of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's most influential and defining works, solidifying their place in hip hop history with its unique blend of rapping styles and its themes of loss, spirituality, and survival. The album's success further popularized the group's rapid-fire, melodic flow and their incorporation of harmonies into rap music.
