An-Najm

An-Najm (Arabic: النجم, meaning "The Star") is the 53rd chapter (surah) of the Quran, containing 62 verses (ayat). It is named after the first verse, which begins with the word "An-Najm" (the star).

The surah opens with affirmations regarding the veracity of the Prophet Muhammad's message, stating that he does not speak from personal whim or desire, but rather delivers divine revelation. Key themes include the confirmation of Muhammad's ascent to the highest heaven (Mi'raj), where he witnessed signs of God, and a refutation of pre-Islamic Arabian polytheism and idolatry.

An-Najm addresses the vain beliefs and superstitions of the pre-Islamic Arabs, particularly their worship of goddesses such as Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and Manat. The surah questions the logic of ascribing female offspring to God and emphasizes the importance of worshipping the one true God (Allah). It highlights the ephemeral nature of worldly pursuits and reminds humanity of the Day of Judgment.

The surah emphasizes the inevitability of accountability for one's actions and the importance of striving for good deeds. It underscores God's all-encompassing knowledge and power, as well as the just distribution of rewards and punishments in the hereafter. An-Najm serves as a reminder to focus on spiritual growth and preparation for the eternal life to come.
