John Temple (judge)
John Temple (1789 – August 23, 1851) was an American lawyer and jurist who served as a judge in the early state of Maine. Born in Readfield, Massachusetts (now Maine), he was admitted to the bar in 1811 and established a law practice in Readfield.
Temple held several public offices during his career. He served as Register of Probate for Kennebec County, Maine, and as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives prior to Maine's statehood. After Maine achieved statehood in 1820, he continued his public service in the Maine legislature.
He is most notably known for his service as a justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, a position he held from 1849 until his death in 1851. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, he served as a judge of the District Court.
