The Challengers (TV series)
The Challengers was a syndicated American television game show that aired from September 3, 1990, to August 30, 1991. Hosted by Dick Clark, the show featured a trivia-based format with a focus on academic and general knowledge.
Each episode featured three contestants competing across three rounds. The first round involved answering toss-up questions for points, often requiring quick recall of facts and information. The second round, known as the "Picture Puzzle" round, presented visual clues that contestants had to identify. The final round, "The Challengers Round," was a fast-paced rapid-fire question round where contestants wagered points they had accumulated on their answers.
The contestant with the highest score at the end of the three rounds was declared the winner and advanced to a bonus round called "The Winner's Board." In the bonus round, the champion faced a grid of twelve categories, each concealing a prize. By correctly answering questions related to the chosen categories, the champion could win cash and other prizes. A contestant could remain on the show for a maximum of five days.
The Challengers aimed to provide an intellectually stimulating and informative game show experience. Despite its single-season run, the show is remembered for its challenging questions and the iconic presence of host Dick Clark. The show was produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with Buena Vista Television.
