SeaFrance
SeaFrance was a ferry company operating services between Dover, England, and Calais, France, across the English Channel. It was a subsidiary of SNCF (French National Railway Company) until its liquidation in 2012.
SeaFrance operated a fleet of ferries providing both passenger and freight transport. The company was known for its competitive pricing and frequent crossings, making it a popular choice for travelers and businesses alike. Key services included day trips, short breaks, and transportation for vehicles of all sizes.
The company faced significant financial challenges due to intense competition from other ferry operators and the Channel Tunnel. Repeated attempts were made to restructure the business, but ultimately these proved unsuccessful.
SeaFrance ceased operations in January 2012 after a lengthy period of financial difficulty and ultimately liquidation. The assets of SeaFrance, including its vessels, were subsequently acquired by Eurotunnel, who then leased them to the Scop SeaFrance cooperative. This cooperative relaunched ferry services under the name MyFerryLink. Eventually, MyFerryLink was sold to DFDS Seaways, marking the end of the SeaFrance brand, albeit its legacy lives on through vessels that once bore its name.
