Abraham de Vries (painter)
Abraham de Vries (c. 1590 – 1650/1655) was a Dutch Golden Age portrait painter.
De Vries was born in Rotterdam. Little is known about his early life or training. He is first recorded in Amsterdam in 1613, where he likely spent the majority of his career. He primarily painted portraits, many of which are of prominent Amsterdam citizens.
His style is characterized by its clarity, attention to detail in depicting clothing and accessories, and generally sober representation of his sitters. While not considered among the most innovative or flamboyant portraitists of his era, his works demonstrate solid craftsmanship and provide valuable insight into the appearance and social standing of the Dutch elite during the 17th century.
His works can be found in various museums, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
