Tata Sumo

The Tata Sumo is a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) produced by the Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors from 1994 to 2019. It was one of Tata's first passenger vehicles designed for the Indian market, intended to provide a spacious and rugged alternative to existing options. The Sumo was known for its boxy design, high seating capacity, and robust build, making it popular in rural areas and for commercial transportation. The name "Sumo" is derived from Sumant Moolgaokar, a former chairman of Tata Motors. Over its production run, the Sumo underwent several updates and revisions, including the Sumo Victa and the Sumo Grande. Its appeal was largely based on its affordability and practicality, though later models faced increasing competition and stricter safety regulations. While production of the Sumo ceased in 2019, it remains a recognizable vehicle on Indian roads and is remembered for its role in shaping the Indian automotive landscape.
