Tanguy (film)

Tanguy, also known as Tanguy: le retour, is a 2001 French comedy film directed by Étienne Chatiliez. The film stars Sabine Azéma, André Dussollier, and Éric Berger.

The story revolves around Tanguy, a highly educated and accomplished 28-year-old man who continues to live at home with his parents. Despite having a PhD in philosophy and being a successful academic, Tanguy shows no inclination to leave the family home. His parents, initially proud and supportive, become increasingly exasperated by his prolonged stay, as it significantly impacts their personal lives and relationship.

Desperate to encourage Tanguy to move out, his parents employ a series of increasingly outlandish and humorous tactics, including making his life as unpleasant as possible and even attempting to sabotage his relationships. The film explores themes of family dynamics, generational differences, the complexities of modern adulthood, and the challenges of letting go.

A sequel, Tanguy, le retour (Tanguy is Back), was released in 2019, continuing the story of Tanguy's return to his parents' home after a failed marriage.
