Takdah

Takdah is a small town in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. Situated at an altitude of approximately 4,000 feet (1,200 meters), Takdah is known for its tea gardens, orchid centers, and the British-era bungalows that dot the landscape. The name "Takdah" is derived from the Lepcha word meaning "mist" or "fog," a reference to the frequent cloud cover in the area.

Takdah was historically a cantonment area during the British Raj. Many of the bungalows, originally built for British officers, still stand today and some have been converted into homestays. These bungalows contribute to the town's colonial charm.

The area's economy is primarily based on tea production. Several tea estates are located in and around Takdah, including the well-known Rangli Rangliot Tea Estate. Tourism is also an important economic activity, with visitors attracted by the scenic beauty, pleasant climate, and opportunities for hiking and birdwatching.

Takdah is located approximately 28 kilometers (17 miles) from Darjeeling. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, and the nearest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
