Symphony station (MBTA)
Symphony station is a rapid transit station on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line "E" branch, located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Situated at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Huntington Avenue, it primarily serves concertgoers attending performances at Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall, as well as students and faculty of Northeastern University and other nearby institutions.
The station consists of two side platforms serving two tracks, situated in the median of Huntington Avenue. It is a surface-level station, meaning that trains enter and exit at street level. Symphony station is not accessible to passengers with disabilities, as it lacks elevators or ramps.
The station opened on February 16, 1941, as part of the Huntington Avenue subway extension, which brought Green Line service further southwest from its former terminus at Lechmere. The station has remained largely unchanged since its opening, although various proposals for accessibility improvements have been considered over the years.
Symphony station's location makes it a vital transit hub for the area, connecting passengers to destinations throughout Boston and its surrounding suburbs via the Green Line. It is a short walk from numerous cultural and educational landmarks, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
