Survivor Series (2001)
Survivor Series (2001) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It took place on November 18, 2001, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. This event is notable for being the culmination of "The Invasion" storyline, which pitted the WWF against a combined force of wrestlers from World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), collectively known as The Alliance.
The main event of the show was a "Winner Take All" Survivor Series elimination match. Team WWF (The Rock, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, Kane, and Big Show) faced Team Alliance (Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and Shane McMahon). The stipulation was that if Team WWF won, The Alliance would be disbanded; if Team Alliance won, the WWF would cease to exist, with power effectively transferring to The Alliance.
The event also featured several other matches, including a WWF Women's Championship Six-Pack Challenge, a WWF Tag Team Championship match, and a WWF United States Championship match. The undercard matches, while significant, were largely overshadowed by the importance and intensity surrounding the "Winner Take All" main event.
The Invasion storyline, and subsequently Survivor Series (2001), is considered by many to be a controversial period in WWF/WWE history. While it was highly anticipated, the execution was often criticized due to the booking decisions and the perceived underutilization of prominent WCW and ECW talent. Despite the mixed reception of the overall storyline, Survivor Series (2001) remains a significant event in wrestling history because of its decisive outcome and the end of the Invasion angle.
