Jana Harris
Jana Harris (born 1945) is an American poet, novelist, and short story writer, primarily known for her work exploring the lives of women in the Pacific Northwest. She is often associated with the Pacific Northwest School of writers.
Harris's work often focuses on historical fiction and rural settings, drawing inspiration from her own family history and the experiences of pioneer women. Her writing frequently delves into themes of survival, resilience, gender roles, and the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Among her published works are the novels Alaska, The Dust Bowl, and Eden Grove, as well as poetry collections such as We Never Speak of It: Idaho-Oregon Border Country Poems and The Collected Poems, 1965-2000. Her work has received awards and recognition, including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.
In addition to her creative writing, Harris has taught writing at various universities and colleges.
