Sucuriju
Sucuriju is a Portuguese term commonly used in Brazil to refer to large snakes, particularly the green anaconda (Eunectes murinus). While "anaconda" is frequently used in English and in some parts of South America, "sucuriju" is the more common name for these snakes within Brazil. The term can sometimes also be applied more broadly to other large constrictor snakes found in South America, though its primary association remains with the green anaconda. Sucurijus are known for their semi-aquatic lifestyle, inhabiting swamps, marshes, and slow-moving rivers of the Amazon and Orinoco basins. They are formidable predators, capable of subduing large prey through constriction.
