Sonny Boy (TV series)

Sonny Boy is a Japanese science fiction anime television series created by Shingo Natsume, who also served as director and credited for the original story. The series aired from July to October 2021.

The story centers around a group of thirty-six middle school students who are suddenly transported to another dimension along with their school building. As they struggle to survive in this unknown world and understand their situation, some of them begin to develop supernatural abilities. The narrative explores themes of adolescence, existentialism, and the nature of reality through the interactions and conflicts of these students.

The animation was produced by Madhouse. The series received positive reviews for its unique art style, philosophical themes, and unconventional narrative structure. Critics particularly praised its exploration of complex ideas and its deliberate pacing, although some found the ambiguity of the plot challenging. The original soundtrack was composed by Shinichiro Watanabe, known for his work on Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, and features a blend of genres that complements the series' otherworldly atmosphere.
