Solefald

Solefald is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in 1995. The band's name is derived from the Old Norse words "sól" (sun), "le" (path, track), and "fald" (fold, layer), suggesting a layered path to the sun, often interpreted as a metaphor for philosophical or spiritual journeys.

The band is known for its experimental and eclectic approach to metal, incorporating elements from black metal, progressive metal, jazz, classical music, and electronic music. They frequently incorporate philosophical and literary themes into their lyrics, often exploring existentialism, mythology, and societal critiques.

Solefald's core members are Cornelius Jakhelln and Lars Are Nedland (also known as Lazare). Jakhelln is primarily responsible for lyrics and conceptual aspects, while Nedland handles most of the musical composition and vocal arrangements. Their music is characterized by complex arrangements, unconventional song structures, and a blend of harsh vocals and clean vocals.

Throughout their career, Solefald has released several albums that have been well-received within the avant-garde metal community. Their discography includes albums such as Jernlov (1996), The Linear Scaffold (1997), Neonism (1999), Pills Against the Ageless Ills (2001), In Harmonia Universali (2003), Red for Fire: An Icelandic Odyssey Part I (2005), Black for Death: An Icelandic Odyssey Part II (2006), Norrøn livskunst (2017), and World Metal. Kosmopolis Sud. (2024).
