Sokha (unit)

A sokha is a traditional unit of land measurement used in some parts of Cambodia. Its precise size can vary depending on the region and local customs, but it generally falls within the range of 400 to 625 square meters. A sokha is larger than a nheap, which is another common unit, and smaller than a rai. The sokha is historically significant in agricultural contexts, often employed in land surveys, property transactions, and agricultural planning. While less common in modern, official contexts which often use metric units, the term sokha remains recognized and utilized, particularly in rural areas, to describe and understand land size. The relative imprecision compared to standard metric units has led to its gradual replacement in formal documentation.
