MV Nyora

MV Nyora was a motor vessel (MV) owned and operated by the Eastern and Australian Steamship Company. Built in 1937 by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, Scotland, she was a passenger and cargo liner primarily used on routes between Australia and Japan, with intermediate stops at ports in Southeast Asia.

During World War II, MV Nyora was requisitioned by the Australian government and served as a troop transport ship. She played a crucial role in moving Australian troops and supplies in the Pacific theater, navigating dangerous waters and facing the constant threat of enemy submarines and aircraft.

Following the war, MV Nyora was returned to her owners and refitted for commercial service. She resumed her pre-war routes, carrying passengers and cargo between Australia and Japan, contributing to the post-war recovery and trade between the two nations. She continued in service until the late 1960s when she was eventually scrapped, marking the end of her distinguished career.
