Softcard

Softcard, formerly known as Isis Mobile Wallet, was a mobile payment platform and digital wallet service. It was a joint venture between major telecommunications companies Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Launched in 2013, Softcard enabled users to make payments at participating merchants by tapping their mobile devices on NFC-enabled (Near Field Communication) point-of-sale terminals.

The platform worked by storing credit card information securely on a secure element within the user's SIM card. This allowed for contactless payments similar to those made with traditional credit and debit cards equipped with NFC technology. Users could add their eligible credit cards and loyalty cards to the Softcard app.

Softcard aimed to compete with other emerging mobile payment systems. However, in 2015, Google acquired Softcard's technology and patents. Following the acquisition, Softcard was discontinued, and its users were encouraged to migrate to Google Wallet (now Google Pay). The closure marked the end of the telecommunications companies' venture into the mobile payment market under the Softcard brand.
