Snap (card game)

Snap is a simple card game, typically played by two or more players, often children. The objective of the game is to be the first to call "Snap!" when two cards of the same rank (e.g., two Queens, two Fives) are played consecutively to a central pile.

Gameplay:

The game typically uses a standard 52-card deck. The deck is divided equally amongst the players, who keep their cards face down in a pile. Players take turns placing the top card of their pile face up onto a central pile. As each card is played, players must be observant.

Calling Snap:

If the rank of the card played on top of the central pile matches the rank of the card immediately beneath it, any player can call "Snap!" The first player to call "Snap!" wins the central pile and adds it to the bottom of their own pile. If a player calls "Snap!" incorrectly (i.e., the ranks do not match), they usually have to give one or more of their cards to each of the other players as a penalty. The exact penalty can vary depending on the house rules.

Winning the Game:

The game continues until one player has won all the cards in the deck, or, in some variations, when a player runs out of cards, they are eliminated, and the last player remaining with cards is the winner.

Variations:

Numerous variations of Snap exist, often involving different rules for calling "Snap!" or additional penalties. Some variations require players to say "Snap!" faster or with a specific emphasis.

Skills Involved:

Snap primarily involves speed, observation, and quick reaction time. It is a game of chance in that the distribution of the cards significantly influences the outcome.
