Shadow and Bone (TV series)
Shadow and Bone is an American fantasy streaming television series developed by Eric Heisserer for Netflix. It is based on two book series in the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo: the Shadow and Bone trilogy (2012–2014) and the Six of Crows duology (2015–2016).
The series is primarily set in a war-torn world inspired by early 19th-century Russia, and follows Alina Starkov, a teenage orphan mapmaker who discovers she is a Grisha, one with extraordinary powers. She is revealed to be a Sun Summoner, a Grisha capable of summoning light, a power that could unite the country of Ravka and destroy the Shadow Fold, a perpetually dark and dangerous region cutting Ravka in two.
The first season, released in April 2021, adapts the first book of the Shadow and Bone trilogy while also incorporating an original storyline featuring the main characters from Six of Crows. The second season, released in March 2023, adapts the second and third books of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and continues the Six of Crows storyline.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan (The Darkling), Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa, and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey.
Following the second season, Netflix cancelled the Shadow and Bone series, and a planned Six of Crows spin-off was also scrapped.
